The Mountain & The Trees - Interview (new single and NXNE preview!)
Nothing needs to be said about the superb line up for the NXEW Official NXNE showcase this Thursday June 17th, 2010 in the Gladstone Hotel Ballroom. Personally, I have written articles on most of the music acts on this NXEW bill, however, I've only spoken and interviewed one of them, that is The Mountain and The Trees.
This folk band is originally from St. John's and Corner Brook, Newfoundland. It began with Jon Janes, who learned new instruments like the mandolin to broaden his musicianship beyond the drums. Over time he had friends come and go, joining his musical troupe mixing folk styles old and new. Through time he added the talents of Jillian Freeman (Bird and Bear), Andrew McCarthy (drums), and many others.
I got a chance to sit down and talk with Jon, Jill, and Andrew during Canadian Music Week (CMW) in March 12th, 2010. The interview was done at The Central on the day of their CMW performance. We had a chance to talk about a wide range of topics including the origin of the band, stories, and the "Hop, Skip, And A Jump" EP. We even chatted a bit about his upcoming new album "I Made This For You" (released nationwide on August 10th, 2010).
I will try to finish the other 2 parts to their interview, but this should give you a good feel of the band. As you know they are going to be the upcoming NXEW spotlight artist of the week, as well as performing at the NXEW showcase this Thursday June 17th! I will be at that show covering the bands, and will write my review of for that NXEW showcase.
Before I let you go, please check out The Mountain and The Trees new single "More, More, More".
