Canadian Album Hall of Fame (as voted by YOU): Star's Set Yourself on Fire

Set Yourself on Fire – Stars (2004)

I still feel chills down my spine when I hear the words, “When there is nothing left to burn, you have to set yourself on fire”. Maybe it’s the sound of the stern voice coming from a radio that opens the song or the striking gentle flowing sounds of a trumpet that proceeds, whatever it may be I’m left haunted by the beauty that encapsulates the heart-wrenching “Your Ex-Lover is Dead”. Fortunately that same sentiment resonates throughout the entirety of Star’s third album Set Yourself on Fire. I’m sure the other 50, 000 plus people who bought the record agree with me. The album was released in 2004 via Toronto label Arts & Crafts and was nominated for Alternative Album of the Year at the Junos in 2005. Other notable tracks from the record include “Ageless Beauty” and “Sleep Tonight”. A couple years later in 2007 the Montreal band released a remix album, Do You Trust Your Friends?, consisting of covers and remixes from Set Yourself on Fire.

Stars line-up:

Torquil Campbell, Amy Millan, Evan Cranley, Chris Seligman, and Pat McGee.
